East Bay Times: New Berkeley medical center to include urgent care By ALI TADAYON May 5, 2018 BERKELEY — A new outpatient medical center opening in June will have an urgent care clinic, which may help fill some of the void as the area loses its emergency rooms. The primary and specialty care center will open in southwest Berkeley along the borders of Oakland and Emeryville. The Berkeley Outpatient Center — a joint venture by John Muir Health and UCSF Health — will house family physicians and a nurse practitioner, as well as experts in 17 specialties, including cardiology, dermatology, gastroenterology, neurosurgery, urology, and optometry, at its site at 3100 San Pablo Ave., according to a UCSF Health news release. The new outpatient center will open amid the last years of Alta Bates Medical Center’s Berkeley campus hospital, which company officials have said will shut down in about a decade.
BayHealth — a joint venture between UCSF Health and John Muir Health — is set to open its first outpatient and urgent care center in West Berkeley in 2018. The company announced Sept. 13 that it will lease 96,000 square feet of Foundry 31, a mixed use building located at 3100 San Pablo Ave., near the intersection of Berkeley, Emeryville and Oakland. The BayHealth Outpatient Center could serve 30,000 to 40,000 patients each year, not including walk-in patients using the urgent care center, according to Chris Willrich, BayHealth CEO.
BayHealth, the joint venture between UCSF Health and John Muir Health, has signed a 15-year lease on space in Berkeley, where it plans to open the venture's first outpatient and urgent care clinic by early 2018.
